Yes, this is a great series of recordings. The "Windy Point" location seems incorrect as I find it difficult to imagine a herd of cattle in that area sufficient to require this much whistling, my thinking being more likely near Los Pinos, but who cares?
The whistle on 484 is the same as the one carried by 487 in 2003-04, a six-chime whistle which could be called a flat-top but which is actually very slightly curved. It's a built-up type. Regardless, it numbers among my most favorite whistles because it not only produces beautiful chords but was prone to squeal in all sorts of different ways, some of which were dissonant and others in perfect harmony. Marvelous stuff!
