Rick,
The Northwoods collection was sold in the late 1960's. 1966 or 1967 if memory serves. Don left the cars in Michigan for over 10 years before he moved them to Colorado. They had been freshly painted about 1965 and were in good condition at that time, but after title changed hands, they were stored outdoors. Don finally was forced to move them when the property they were stored on was sold for development and he was faced with moving them or losing them.
The combine was a real gem, with wicker seats and still equipped with a 1956 calendar above the conductor's desk. It was much better looking than the ex BRB&L combines that the EBT is currently using. The baggage was ex-Ausable and North Eastern and was originally from Michigan, which is why it was acquired for the proposed Northwoods Logging Museum.
I'd love to see the EBT get the combine back and maybe see the baggage go to either the EBT or to a museum in Michigan.
