#44's frame, running gear, drivers, and all misc parts are stored at the CRRM in Golden, Colorado. To my knowledge, her boiler is still in Denver at Colorado Boiler, where work was being performed on firebox and other repairs when work was halted back in 2002.
That was one thing I wanted to see in my lifetime...#40 & #44 doubleheaded on the Loop. I am too young to have seen it when it was done in the "early days" of GLRR Inc. When #40 came onto the Loop property in 1978, and in the following years up until #44 was taken out of service in 1987 (I think that is correct), there were a few doubleheaders done with the two girls, and boy did they look good together. At least, that's what the photos show!
