The C&S 2-6-0s look like they were fitted with 9 1/2 "pumps . The 2-8-0s generally had a single 11" pumps . Neither the C&S nor the D&RGW attepted to employ a cross coumpound pump. as they need a minimum of 175 psi to operate properly. As any engineer would tell you m there is no such thing as too much stored compressed air! Some D&RGW engines had as many as three air tanks but most had at least two. Most D&RGW engines had two single stage pumps in tandem, and this was so the main reservoir pressure would recover faster berteen applications, very important when descending mountain grades .
