346 is being reassembled. Brackets for running boards, air pumps & other appliances have been bolted on the boiler. New riveted cab floors have been fabricated. New bushings are being machined for the "wishbones" to mate with the cylinder "inlets". New grate bearers and grates remain to be cast. Then comes boiler lagging and fabrication of boiler jacketing. (in progress) All this takes time, money and qualified people.
Linn Moedinger and crew at Strasburg did a superb job rebuilding 346's boiler and running gear last fall. The CRRM is hoping 346 will pull our Santa Claus Special the first week end in December 2005.
