One more fact that needs to be set right...no passenger was "forced" to walk from the mine to Devil's Gate!
But isn't that only because the derailment happened while the #21 diesel was in the lead and the train was coming uphill?
Passengers would have had to walk if the derailment had happened on the downhill trip... or if the #12 steam locomotive had been in the lead on the way uphill (as in the picture below, from savethetrain.org). In either of those two cases, the derailed #21 diesel locomotive would have been in between the #12 steam locomotive and the passenger carrying cars. The passenger cars wouldn't be able to be moved until the #21 diesel locomotive had been rerailed.
