I have seen builder's photos of Quincy & Torch Lake locomotives delivered with spoked pony wheels. They were later replaced with solid wheels. Did the spoked pony wheels have replaceable tires that were shrunk fitted? If not, it would seem to have been considerably more expensive to wear them out and throw them away compared to doing that with solid wheels. I know they had paper wheels at one time, but I have no details of how they were made.
