To explain part of the question, note the error on the map page 235 which shows the D&RG abandoned in 1902 between Reliannce Jct. on the east end and Wagon Creek Jct. on the west end of Veta Pass Line. But The Greyback Branch (2.1 miles) connecting to the above section was abandoned 1918. Actually the Grayback Branch included the Veta Pass Line from Placer to Wagon Creek Jct. after 1901, so the 1902 abandonment limits is in error.
