Investigating th "progress" in Silver Plume yards yesterday I was quite taken by the remodeling in the 1884 Georgetown,Breckenridge & Leadville station there. The Colorado "Historical" Society has destroyed the only original RR structure there by guting the interior walls of the freight section of the depot. The walls used to be sided by an assortment of sizes of unplaned boards that was graffitied by individuals dating from the 1880s to the 1920s. Those old boards really expressed the historic "feel" of the structure. CHS has replaced the old boards with new ones.WHY? Most former GLRR employees did appreciate that touch. Holes have been cut out of the original walls between ticket office and the freight room. Why? there has allways been a ticket window between the office and the waiting room. The CHS is truely biggest form of hypocrisy I know in this state!
