Just curious what is planned for rust removal from the journals before the engine is rolled? The Strasburg folks say it is just about impossible to get under the axles without a pit on these little engines, but most long-displayed engines have rust on the undersides of the journals, due to water dripping off the boiler. This rust grinds up into the soft bearings above if the locomotive is rolled, damaging them.
The usual scenario is send a skinny guy underneath with emery cloth, polishing in the direction of rotation, then applying a heavy, waterproof grease. If that is not possible here, what is planned? Perhaps removing a tie or two and digging a pit under each axle?
