The films we discussed go on.
There's a plethora of B westerns and Saturday afternoon serials that featured steam trains. These were made in the thousands in the 1930s, 40s, and early 50s. During the 30s, depression era, the RR lines, especially the class B lines, were accomodative to movie makers so they could get additional (non-transportation) revenues.
Here's some descriptions of films that come to mine.
Hoppalong Cassidy, B/W on the C&C SPNG, lots of yard footage, the charater was a railroader, and a run out to a mine.
Roy Rogers, B/W & color! at conclusion bad guns attack a moving cattle train pulled by SP? steamer. Film opens with a dead man's watch stopped at the time the steam train goes by.
Roy Rogers, Gabby Hays, opens with a race between a V&T MOW train and a stage coach. At end of the race good discussion on the merits of train versus horse (train could do the MPH much longer and not get tired).
Wish I could remember the titles but I was very small then and at that time I could walk over to the SP and watch the local 2-6-0 get fired up for local service, GS4s roared by with fast freight and the Daylight, and cab-forwards roar by too.
I always thought it would be a good idea to go through as many shorts, B westerns, and serials, and lift out the steam portions and make a composite video for sale. One could try an ID all the lines and equipment that was used.
