Ray:
I picked up a copy yesterday and I concur with your observations. The information on the Perins Peak branch is priceless (including your first hand account BTW). I haven't had time to fully digest some of it yet but modeling the Perins Branch looks like a great idea.
I have noted in the story of conductor Crum's log book RGS water car # 6052 (p343) and also of C & S cars #4043 being used to haul coal and #4044 for lumber (p348). This is good stuff!
Is the Perins branch realistically still an option for someone to rebuild i.e. what is the presnt circumstances of the ROW and development in this area? You and I were probably crossing paths on your hike in 1970 and I am guessing like myself were without a camera. Sometimes the old timers prefer the camera in their head, but like most things time has a way of fading the details. Thanks for sharing your memories.
