C&S Crossing over Hampden in Denver.

April 07, 2005 08:12AM
I posted the following message to another discussion group but I suspect it will be more pertinent here:
A few months ago when I was working the BNSF "Kontry" job, the job did some switching at the very end of the line which historically was "Denver South Park and Pacific" in Narrow Gauge days. Perhaps I should post this question to the NG discussion group but there might be a few of you who would find this interesting. The line ends about 200 feet northward from Hampden avenue.
Obviously, the line crossed Hampden at one time. A couple of questions come of historical interest:
- When was this crossing removed? Was it removed about the same time as the line was converted to standard gauge?
- Do you know of any photos which exist of standard gauge trains south of Hampden?
- Were there some industries served which existed south of Hampden which were served by rail for a time in the early standard gauge era?
Corrections or comments always welcomed.
