Slightly off topic, but D&RGW related:
In the late-1950s and early 1960s, newsman Carl Akers was the anchor on channel 7 Denver, then known as KLZ-TV. Two or three nights a week, the news was sponsored by the Rio Grande, alternating with Standard Oil. The commercials were usually for the Grande's passenger trains, the Prospector, the Royal Gorge, or the California Zephyr or occasionally, the Yampa Valley Mail. On rare occasion, there would be an ad for the Silverton, which the RR was still trying to get rid of. When the RR sponsored the news, there was a large-scale set of D&RGW A-B F units on the news desk.
Carl Akers (who was a "Jeeper" and also produced some good historical documentaries, like "Six Days to Durango") eventually moved over to channel 9 (then KBTV) and I've heard he died several years ago. Anyone know what happened to the F units? Were they operable models, plaster castings or what? Would be nice if CRRM had them, for a bit of nostalgia older persons might identify with.
