Just got back from 2 weeks in the PRC. Visited the DaHuiChang Limestone NG RR, just outside of Beijing and the Beijing RR Museum. The Limestone RR has four 0-8-0s, two in operation. The gauge is somewhere around 2 feet. The engines are of East European design and some where from Europe, others made locally. All engines look in bad shape (not cared for to US standards) and are just treated as mules of burden. However, no plans to replace them.
The Beijing RR Museum is fantastic with many steamers in emaculate condition. All had their driving rods removed and stowed in the tenders. They could easily operate again. Also featured is an American build 0-8-0 from South China.
If ssomeone has send me an e-mail while I was gone, please resubmit. Thanks
