When I left DGO in Oct last year they were getting 482 ready for a entirely new smokebox. The old (as in orginal BLW one) had rotted to paper thin - or less where the holes were.
All the 470's and 480's have thier original smokeboxes on them. It's amazing they have lasted as long as they have. With the abrasive action of soot, cinders, steam, (sulfur in coal plus steam equals sulfuric acid), etc its a wonder they haven't fallen off years ago.
Some pic would be nice though.....
