Dear Dave,
They are all great photos and wonderful that you shared then with all of us. The last one of #463 at Cumbres is just the greatest as there is no sign or paint that would date it to any connection to being a tourist railroad. If there were just one white grab iron on the engine, it would destroy the timeless image you captured, just as if you had been there 50 years earlier. The snow just added the character that railroads run in all weather.
Lets hope the C&TS can continue to mimic the past in such true form, and never be attacked by the paint addicts, such as the shop foreman that was once at Salida. The damage done by him was when it was photographed as an example of bad taste, and then copied years later as if it was the norm. It is like rewriting history rather than to try to duplicate an old time frame. You have to be careful what photos you use as an example of the past.
This photo is a gem.
