Gus was the team leader on about a 5 year restoration on that car. As far as I can tell, the car started out as a Fairmont A7 which had 4 wheels. The story that I was told is that they had many derailments so they extended the length, put tool boxes in the front, and added 2 axles in the front to improve tracking. I too am a Friends member but have worked on restoring the smaller ST2 cars that you can see on the Friends web site. If you want to look at pictures of the MOW cars, you can look them up on the Friends site under the railroad, then click on rolling stock, then click on the picture to get more information. The car was repainted last summer as part of the Railroads improving the look of their equipment. You can see photos of it in its new paint on Carlos's shop update web pages in Sept. I believe. As far as I know, the car is operational. We are planing to do some work on it this summer. Hope this helps.
