Train counts were maintained by the Silverton newspaper all those years, and it still does, and that may be where Bob got his information. I recall that a daily event was the conductor coming into the newspaper with the daily count. Ross Beaber ran the paper when I first hit town in 1956, and he was a staunch advocate of saving the narrow gauge and promoted the hell out of it. Not to detract from the many wonderful things Bob did, but saving the narrow gauge was not a one person effort.
