One of several promises made by Charlie was to extend the season, both in May and through Thanksgiving. And he did it by the end of the first year, running through Thanksgiving weekend. The traditional start with the D&RGW was memorial Day weekend, and Charlie moved it up to the first weekend in May, about what it still is, but after the first winter (maybe the second, can't remember) he acknowledged that the figures could not justify November operation. It was quite a sight to see the train pulling up 12th street, pushing through fresh snow, come to a grand halt, and have 15 people get off. It was a wonderful idea, and Silverton businesses welcomed it with gusto, but the patronage could not support the operation.
