Dave:
The US Air Force photography school was based in Denver, Colorado (at Lowry Air Force base) from 1939 until 1994. I was an instructor there from 1971 to 1975 and again from 1979 to 1981.
From 1939 until the 50s, part of the training was on aerial photography. One of the aerial photograhy instructors was later my manager and he told me that they regularly practiced aerial photography from twin-engine Beech aircraft over SW Colorado. He said they often shot over Gunnison, Salida, Silverton, etc. in the WWII to 50s period. I asked him what happened to the film they shot and he said most of it was destroyed after each class graduated. He had some prints of the area around Salida that he shot in 1949, but he would not give them to me. Can you image what we could do with that film today. These were 9 inch by 9 inch negs and the detail would be even better than from the stuff done today (closer to the ground...grin).
