Your Spreader is still at Birds where your pictures show it. Incidently, it came close to being involved in a derailment last Monday, as the GWR derailed 4-5 cars just 50' east of there. I'm glad you got this, I have pictures of it being used 20 years ago.
The modern plow they have now is simply a double sided highway dept plow mounted on an old gondola. This dates from the Pete Ascher era. Ocassionally they do need something to clear the cuts when we get a lot of drifting snow.
I don't know what was used in the steam era, looking through my old books, there is only references to a "borrowed wedge plow".
