Salida Mail, Dec. 31, 1929: “The new tipple which will handle the coal from Crested Butte, screen and sort it, will be ready for operation about January 10.
The coal will be brought to Salida without sorting at them mines. The coal will be screened here and sorted and the slack will be used by the railroad for its locomotives. This plan of handling will enable the railroad to secure coal at lower cost and will enable the coal company to handle its product at a greater profit.
Seven to ten men will be employed in this new industry.”
