Re: NdeM Narrow Gauge Practice Questions

Only conjecture but the NdeM narrow gauge system had a number of tunnels , and clearance may have been an issue . It seemed to be NdeM practice after 1930 to mount almost ALL headlights on the smokebox , both sg and n.g. The few exceptions were hand-me-down power from absorbed roads like the legendary Mexican Southern ,that ran through the mountainous spine of southern Mexico to the fabled city of Oaxaca . The D&RGW K-27s sold in 1942 retained a number plate ,though received a shorter stack . They ran to Oaxaca till the line was standard-gauged in 1947 . Because of their high axle loadings ,they saw little use on the 30 lb. rail in the Valley of Mexico till they engines were converted to standard gauge .
