They are also very easy to replace with the right equipment handy. Tender decking was made to be replaced as needed.
By the way, Ted, that tender is from C&S #74. The C&N tender was gone by 1924. The C&S practiced the same identical construction for all of their narrow gauge locomotives. I know a lot of folks think of #30 in terms of being #30, but there isn't anything left of the original #30 beyond the boiler, steam chests and frame. The rest of it is all #74, with a few other C&S parts thrown into the mix, like the whistle, which is stamped as having been on one of the 60's.
