North is up on the aerial photo.
I agree that it is a great drive to take if you can spare the time. We have relatives in Denver and often pass through Gunnison on the way home to AZ. On the eastern side shortly after leaving the highway you can find some remenants of old bridge locations. Some nice rockwork from long gone days.
