The table below lists the K-28s that went to Alaska. The 'in service' date is the date they arrived in Skagway and started working. The K-28s were succesfully used on the White Pass and nearly every train had a K-28 midtrain helper to get to the top of the pass on the 20 mile ^4% grade. The K-28s were responsible for the great tonnages of supplies and materials for the Alcan and Canol Projects which the WP&Y hauled during the 24/7 summer operations. They were equipped with plows for winter operations, however they were used less in the winter when ice along the rails made them easier to derail. That's what happened with 252 and why it was sent out earlier than the others.
