F&C 0-4-0T at Fillmore?

November 30, 2004 11:23PM
Hi, All -
Per Stan Garner of Short Line Enterprises, who once owned the 1891 Porter 0-4-0T currently sporting the number '1' and the name 'Sespe.' in Fillmore, CA, Carl Fallberg used this engine as the prototype for several of his Fiddletown & Copperopolis drawings, most notably the one titled "Railfans visit the F&C". Before Stan acquired the engine it was owned by a friend of Carl's in the Pomona or San Dimas area, east of Los Angeles.
The engine has been rebuilt and was under steam last year for Fillmore's annual Railroad Festival. Even though I had fired and run her several times in the early 90's, I paid $50 to play engineer for a 20-minute or so run out to the bridges west of town and back. Worth every penny!!

p.s. PLEASE forgive me for discussing a standard gauge engine in the Narrow Gauge Forum ... but the F&C was 36" gauge, right??
