DRGW ran the parlor cars on the San Juan right up untill the end. I assume these were "First Class" reserved seats (with buffet service?).
Was there really a demand for this service (besides for Beebe & Clegg)? What was the extra fare? Did DRGW continue it on the train to run up costs to prove their case for abandonment? Does anyone know of any formal/informal rules to assign one of the coaches as a smoker? Railroads of that era tended to try to separate any "respectable folk" from the smoking, cussing, less bathed, etc.
Does anyone know if the Pullmans that went to Tonopah (NG) and then to N-C-O were operated in a similiar fashion?
