Two standard gauge cabooses were unloaded in Silverton today not too far from the depot. These are end to end on a short piece of track and will be used as a residence. These are the cabooses that were in Durango for a number of years, next to the narrow gauge in north Durango. That makes 3 standard gauge cabooses in town, all on rail, and nowhere to go. We had a Great Northern observation car here a while back that was owned by Don Stott. He traded it for a Mercedes and it ended up as office space in nearby Telluride, and it is now in Oregon. It grates me some what to see standard gauge stuff here--anywhere else would be ok, but the purity of our narrow gauge town is sullied by these foreign intruders.
