I'm not an RGRPC board member, and I might be shot/fired for sticking my neck out here, but here's my take on it.
The C&TS is not ready to take on an event of this magnitude yet. We are still not out of the woods concerning needed track repairs and until we get the all locomotives through their required FRA recertification, motive power will be in short supply.
What's this got to do with RGS 5? Well, quite a bit. It takes manpower and resources to make these things happen. At this time our manpower and resouces need to be directed to stabilizing and returning the physical plant to where we were 5 years or so ago. The first trip #5 made to the C&TS was pretty much a full time job to make happen. We plan on running a lot of work trains (with #19) this summer. The last thing we need is #5 waddling around too. Perhaps next year we will get further up into the "recovery curve" so we can do some fun stuff.
Perhaps a "RGS Week" with Geese #1, 2, 3?, 5, 6 and 7 with 463 making a return as "455". Could be fun... Could be insane too.
Who knows?
