The La Jara Tank Cars

October 19, 2004 10:37PM
Gordon,
Yes, both of those tanks are Frameless UTLX, commonly referred to as the GRAMPS Tanks. But not all Frameless Tanks were Gramps tanks.
The tank bodies were used on a farm for year near La Jara, Colorado. They have no trucks, couplers or brake equipment. The Friends of the C&TS have been talking to the owner for years trying to bring them back. Since the UTLX Cars went through three different numbering plans during their life on the Narrow Gauge I'll give you all three numbers for both tanks.
The two from LaJara are:
58432 / 88153 / 11037 and
55276 / 88167 / 11048
If my counting is correct there are (4) Other Frameless Tanks still around.
(2) At the Georgetown Loop Railroad
55326 / 88169 / 11050 UTLX frameless and
55328 / 88170 / 11051 UTLX frameless this is the one they use as the Fueling station
(2) At the Museum at Golden
55349 / 88177 / 11058 UTLX frameless and
55172 / 88164 / 11045 Gramps, frameless. Was at Sundown & Southern, Sold to CRRM for $3700
I hope this clears things up a bit
