The deal on Kahului #12 has still not been closed. The buyer's representative called beforehand to cancel the Sep. 28 appointment and reschedule to Oct. 5. Silverwood's chief engineer, a man of not unlimited patience, has remarked that if this keeps up they're going to keep the engine and have one heck of a party with the non-refundable $25,000 deposit.
To date, I have no concrete evidence to indicate who the buyer is and Railstar/CHS links seem to be mostly rumor. This is not to call anyone a liar or pick a fight; it's just that the only source I have that names the CHS is the anonymous poster "in the know," whose credibility I simply can't establish with the available information.
#12's old throttle, the cobbled-together ball-valve-and-angle-iron affir, has been gone for about a year and replaced by a properly designed and adjusted locomotive throttle. I do not know what standards the boiler does or does not conform to, apart from ASME. You might want to talk to William Petitjean, P.E., who has done some consulting work for Silverwood on both KRR #12 and E-N #7. He used to post on this forum and might still lurk, or you can contact him through his
business website.
