I was in the parlour car on Sunday. I commented to the Friends host that they were probably using a lot of sand because of the wet rails. Plus if there has been little rain this summer there was probably some oil to mix with the rain on the rails. We saw Sonny on the running board, but could not tell what he was doing. I told my wife, I wonder if he is refilling the sand dome, or just clearing a blockage. One of the Friends said they bring extra bags of sand on a trip like that. Anyway, she slipped a lot on the curves going up, but Jeremy did a great job of recovering. She almost stopped once on a curve.
I overheard a radio transmission. Something about meeting the train at a point on the way up and bringing some oil or something else. I couldn't catch the conversation because it was broken up.
It rained like crazy on our way from Chama Sunday evening. It began to clear by Monday and we saw snow on the peaks all the way into Utah and Nevada. My wife's sister said there was fresh snow on the Oregon Cascades also.
