The remains of RGS 0401 sat in Boulder's Central Park (looking like the photo in the post above) until 1975, when D&RGW 04990 was bought to replace it. At that point some parts (trucks, grab irons, couplers, trussrods, platform railings and steps, brake beams, brake staffs and some misc. components) were saved and stored. Some of them, such as the trucks, brake beams, couplers, cupola roof grab irons, & brake staffs, have or will soon find their way onto 04990 as it is restored. Other parts, such as the truss rods, platform railings and steps, some grab irons and other peices, were traded to the Friends of the Cumbres & Toltec a few years ago and are now on restored caboose 0579 in Antonito. The rest of the caboose (frame, bolsters, brake cylinder etc, was thrown in the dump by the City of Boulder in 1975. A few interior parts from 0401, including seat frames and cupola steps, were saved by a CU professor who picked them up the moring after 0401 was blown up. These too will be used in 04990.
Also, as for lubing locomotive #30 before the move, it has been well cleaned up and lubed over the past 6 years as it has made a few moves on the track in Central Park. #30 rolls easily and all of the journals look good.
