Another railroad line with three gauges during its life.
The Los Angeles & Redondo Railroad began as a three-foot gauge steam railroad named Redondo Railroad in the early 1890s. Within a few years it renamed itself as Los Angeles & Redondo to better describe where it operated.
Then in 1902 it rebuilt itself as a 42-inch gauge electric interurban line. This allowed it to compete with the new interurban lines and operate over the 42-inch gauge Los Angeles Railway to a downtown station. As a steam road its station was at the edge of town and people had to get there by streetcar.
Control of the went to Hentry E. Huntington in 1906. In 1910 when Huntington removed himself from the local interurban business the LA&R went to the Southern Pacific controled Pacific Electric. The inner half of the line was sold to the Huntington controlled Los Angeles Railway and the outer half was converted to standard gauge.
So half of the original line of this road was in sequence 36" gauge, 42" gauge and 4'8-1/2" gauge.
