You posted under my post, and I never said it looked goofy. The restoration job looks like it was done really well, but my opinion, and thats all it is, is that it would have been nicer red, and thus more historically accurate. I think most kiddies and others riding an excursion train have come to expect a caboose to be red anyway.
We're not saying they did a bad job of reconstruction, so don't get so defensive. Its just a little surprising to see historical groups do this much work, and not make it historically accurate throughout the process. Next they might consider painting a boiler green to match and state it matches the coaches and caboose. My point is, as long as everyone just says its okay, more and more will be lost of the little heritage thats left at some places.
If something is going to be restored to its authentic appearance then it should be as close to 100% as physically possible. If I buy a 57 chevy and modify it into a different color scheme other than chevy used for a 57 then its not historically accurate is it!!! Its still a 57 chevy but its not stock appearance. The caboose is still EBT lineage, but its not in the Stock paint. If everyone is okay with that, then fine, I will stop caring also! Nuff Said!
