Early Days of SVRR

What do these piles of building parts have to do with narrow gauge railroading? SVRR acquired the WH Eccles #3 Heisler in Dec. of 1971. This shot was taken in early 1972 as SVRR volunteers began construction of a temporary shop building to be used to house the restoration of the Heisler. Note the plywood panels which were assembled in such a way that the building could be dismantled and reassembled elsewhere. Ellingson Lumber Co. at the that time had a plywood plant at Baker and donated the plywood. This building is what we call today "The Car Shop" at our McEwen, Oregon base of operations. That plywood was not exterior grade, so is badly deteriorated today. SVRR hopes to secure grant funding to cover the plywood with house wrap and new metal siding to match our archive and library building. This photo was taken by the late Laura Hayse and is from the SVRR Archive.
