Would it be close enough to construct "inferential measurements"?
In modeling D&RG #168, I've visited the actual article a number times, taken bunches of measurements, and always get home to find I'm missing some. What I've done in some cases is to use a photograph containing both the thing to be measured and a known-measured object, both in the same plane of distance from the camera. I measure the known object in the photograph, and use that measurement to come up with a scaled "inch" on the photograph. With that, I can reliably measure on the photograph anything that's also in the same distance plane.
I now carry a "foot stick" in my camera bag, a piece of 2x2 pine cut to exactly one foot in length. I put that somewhere on the prototype I'm photographing, take my pictures, and I have a known reference in each image for all the things in the same distance plane...
