While a student at Berkeley I was occasionally a night editor for the Daily Cal (Monarch of the College Dailies). It was a hot lead linotype operation in a union shop. I still remember the shop steward threatening me with all kinds of harm if I so much as touched any of his work. But it was fascinating to watch. And some things never change: my editions of the Daily Cal alway had a lot of typos, just like my posts here today. Based on what I saw in that shop, what Fritz says about the complexity of printing something like the Official Guide before computers must have been a massive task. Computers have changed so many things. And we are so dependent on them today.
