Folks:
When I was in High School in the mid 70s in Denver, I joined the Rocky Mountain Railroad Club. In the Spring of 1977 long time member Ed Gerlits invited me to ride in a Charter in the Cinco Animas on the Silverton he was organizing. Although I had made pilgrimages to Durango from Denver the prior two summers, I hadn't ridden the train since 1963, when I was five with my parents and younger brother. So, I worked extra hours at my part time job I had while in school to pay for it. It was a great trip, here are a few pics.
1) Group photo at the Durango Depot. Recognize anyone? I think Ed is on the far right.
2) Shot of the Cinco Animas before departure in Durango.
3) Another view with the Durango Depot, note how open it was.
4) K28 473 on the head end. Hopefully there are others on this forum besides me, Earl K and Big Diehl who like and appreciate the K28 Diamond Stack era.
5) The Cinco Animas after arrival in Silverton. Looks like it was a good spring for the dandelions.
To be continued,
