This photo is from the Latham family's collection of photos taken by Sergeant Guy Latham on the White Pass & Yukon Route and shared with our SVRR Archive. This was during the period in WW2 when the US Army was running the railroad. I don't know who the gentleman is on the motor car, but what caught my attention is the axle extension sticking out on the rear axle. There is also a shaft sticking out at about the midpoint of the motor car. What was their purpose?
