The last owner of the Mill also had another mill on the south side of Alamosa next to the Antonito Branch. The Alamosa mill was newer and when he decided to close the Chama mill to concentrate his efforts on the Alamosa property, he had the Chama mill scrapped to keep any competition away.

It was the last industry in Chama, outside of the RR. And I believe one of the last industries to survive that had once shipped on the narrow gauge.
