In the last pic, the engineer is hosing down the running board with the deck hose. I've done that a couple of thousand times, but the reason was to get rid of the cinders that accumulate on the running board. Why? The first time one encounters a head wind and all those cinders come flying in your face, you will know...

So, oil burners are essentially cinder-less, why hose the running board down?
