Looking at pix of the Geese, I say I can guess why they're all whacked there. Since the doors angle inward toward the front, that corner sticks out. Especially with the doors open, that's a prime spot to nail something.
Anything sticking up along the right of way, branch, old tie, etc., probably gave those things a good thump.
