A few pix from the distant past

Cold dismal winter days are a good time to explore some of those old yellow boxes of slides. And occasionally I find something "new". Here are a few.

First a view of the Graden Flour Mill from September 1967. I am surprised to see a car spotted at the mill so late in the game. It looks like a good prototype industry for the Gorre & Daphetid.



And then a September 1964 view of the Nomad, probably getting ready to leave for Silverton.



In July 1963 Gordon Chappell and I hiked into Elk Park to get some pictures of what I believe was the last remaining working harp switchstand on the DRGW narrow gauge. The wye is still there but the stub switch and harp switchstand were replaced long ago.



Then a September 13, 1965 view of a short work train heading up the Silverton branch, wading through the weeds before the line was raised. I think that is Al Lyons on the back platform, but the picture is too grainy to make a positive identification. Al was the senior conductor at Durango, and presumably regularly worked the Silverton. Perhaps he got called off assignment and was making really big bucks. Anyone remember how the Durango board worked?



And finally a 1985 picture of a D&S Silverton at Tall Timber.
