Yep, and it's a full blown Opera as well! It somehow seems fitting; here we have the "good guys" and a peaceful setting, the "bad guy" (who just happens to be an official with a government agency) that is the antagonist. For the plot we have the bad guy, having been thwarted in his scheme to acquire control of the railroad 30 years ago plotting and scheming to somehow wrest control away from the "good guys".
Of course no Opera would be complete without some skullduggery and this one doesn't disappoint! From the first melodious strains of "Non negotiable!" to the wild and whacky "RFP" and "We can do it with volunteers!" you will be swept along and amazed!
In counterpoint to the manic zaniness of the earlier pieces comes the haunting and poignant "Loyalty" performed by the GLRR Inc. employees.
Not to be outdone is the CHS chorus in their shocking rendition of "A new operator!" and the dark and powerful aria "Not historical preservationists!"
The Opera takes us on a rollercoaster ride with our emotions as the gallant operators of the railroad vainly try to reach an accomodation with the CHS only to be turned down at every turn. We witness the appalling spectacle of the little neglected Mogul taken from it's lonely siding to be used as a pawn in the power struggle.
The Opera concludes with an appropriate aria from our rather rotund "Brunhilda" entitled "Death of a Railroad" and the final chorus "Where have all the steam engines gone?"
In true grand opera fashion this one is a tragedy with no one winning. For Colorado residents I would urge you to take notice as the curtain will close on this production in a little over a month and then you will have missed one of Colorado's true tragedies in the making.
