In the summer of 1966, when I was working at Climax, a number of times I rode the engine around the yard when I was assigned to unload steel drums from box cars. I couldn't be working in a box car when loads and empties were being switched around. A nice break from hard labor. I also got to know the train crew, and rode the engine from Climax to Leadville on a few occasions. Two mining engineering students from Leoben, Austria, who also lived in the company dorm, would drive my VW to Leadville and pick me up. Some happy times on the Climax branch a long time ago but well remembered.
