Here in CO, The DRHS has used a custom mill and wood works in Arboles CO. They specialize in timber framing.. They go around the country buying up old timber framed barns and trestles, and industrial buildings for the large timbers, and re-cycle them. They have an extensive inventory of old barn timbers... I have seen 18" x 18" oak timbers 20+ feet long. 30' Fir and such. They were hired to re-build the top sills on both our stock cars, single 6x8 for 30ft long. They also built the entire under carriage on our Gondola. Oak sills and fir beams. All from old, and well aged ( non warping old growth ) well seasoned timbers.
