O-K, so there will be a new diseasel on the C&TS -
. . . Primarily for work-train service and supposedly powerful enough to rescue a passenger train stuck between Chama and Cumbres. Hopefully this is a one-off purchase and NOT the beginning of a slow descent into diseasel-powered tourist trains except in DIRE emergencies (like a Forest Service shutdown of ALL steam operations). Hopefully the vast majority of riders on the C&TS will never see – or at least never notice – this monstrosity sneaking out of town with a ballast train at least an hour before the buses depart in time to catch the morning train at the opposite end of the line. But just in case a flatland tourister should happen to catch a glimpse of #114, this should in no way ever give the false and un-histöric impression that such a thing was ever used on the
Rio Grande narrow gauge. IMHO #114 should NOT, under any circumstances, be painted according to any diseasel color schemes used by the D&RGW in the past, but be kept as obscure and un-noticed as possible by painting it in the medium grey with black markings appropriate to its primary role as motive power for work trains.

Willie (Wm. Claude Johnson-Barr III, Esq.)

p.s. While they're at it, I strongly suggest that #15, #19 and all the ex-EBT hopper cars be painted in m.o.w. grey as well.
